Hanson keeps
Rattan simple. We buy Rattan in bulk,
round the ends and sand the shaft.
We check it for strength and flexibility and that's it.
Rattan is
so easily broken that we believe varnishing, bending, wrapping
handles and all the rest of the things people do to rattan is
a big waste of time,
effort and expense. Not only that, people are deluded into thinking a varnished
cane
is cleanable and safe to use on more than one person.
Rattan is
like a sponge. It absorbs everything that it comes in contact
with.
Caning brings fluids to the surface of
the skin,
even if you don't see them.
There is no way to get around it. By using a cane on more than
one person
you risk transmitting fluid born disease and infection.
A
cane should be used on one and only one person.
Varnish does not seal out fluids. A cane flexes constantly during
use.
Flexing causes cracks in the varnish. Fluids get through the
cracks and into the cane.
That's why
we keep it simple. We want you to play safely.
Our Rattan is priced so that you can easily afford to play without
danger
of transmitting disease.
If your fantasies
dictate the use of a fancy leather handle
or varnish on your cane, then by all means do it.

Hanson makes cane in five diameters.
Thinner canes create more surface sting.
Thicker canes work deeper into the muscle layer.
We make cane in several lengths.
30 inches long is our "Standard" length because while
being effective
it is controllable. It is our most popular length.
People more
experienced in caning may opt for the 40 inch length.
It is more "whippy" and creates greater impact but
it is
more difficult to control and takes a lot of practice to use
effectively.
KOOBOO - Is also
available in one size.
Kooboo is unpeeled rattan. We sand the growth nodes and round
the ends.
Kooboo stings a bit more than rattan because the bark is a little
more
slick than the pith and fiber of rattan.

We also make a Rattan "Birch".
Our safer version of the Birch
of UK infamy. Birches in the UK are made with long thin branches
from a bush not from the trees we know in the US.
Birches are vicious.
Twigs and nodes can break away from the birch and embed in the
skin.
We've eliminated the problem by using Rattan. Soaking our Rattan
Birch
before use makes it flexible and whippy.
Our Birch "Faggot" is
a bundle of thirteen birch rods.
It is intended to be used as a tactile or warm up toy, not as
a flogger.

Rubber Sticks
They're not exactly cane, but they fit into this category because
they can
be used in much the same way that cane is used. Made of heavy
black neoprene,
they can be devastating, but we've found that they make an even
better warm-up toy.
Used like a pair of drumsticks, they make a fantastically
effective massage tool.
